Learning Disorders

Overcoming Academic Challenges

What are Specific Learning Disorders?

Specific Learning Disorders are neurodevelopmental conditions that affect a child's ability to process information. They are not related to intelligence. Children with learning disorders are often smart but process information differently, leading to difficulties in reading, writing, or math.

Dyslexia

Difficulty with reading. Signs include trouble recognizing words, slow reading, poor spelling, and difficulty matching letters to sounds (phonics).

Dysgraphia

Difficulty with writing. Signs include messy handwriting, trouble gripping a pencil, poor grammar, and difficulty organizing thoughts on paper.

Dyscalculia

Difficulty with math. Signs include trouble counting, understanding numbers, telling time, and solving logic problems.
